A EuroMillions Lotto Prize Almost Thrown Away

A 71-year-old man by the name of Geordie Rhodick threw his EuroMillions ticket in the trash after his numbers were unsuccessful. His quick-thinking wife, Betty, rescued the ticket and discovered that they had actually won £1 million in the Millionaire Maker Raffle. Read the full story.

Geordie Rhodick comes from Lochgilphead in Scotland and lives with his cheerful wife, Betty. Mrs. Rhodick, who is 63, says she has “honestly no idea” why she rescued the EuroMillions ticket and took it back to the local RS McColls store where her husband had bought it. The assistant at the store informed her that it turns out they had a substantial win and it couldn’t be paid out over the counter. The store manager then came through, checked the ticket, and began to shake. The manager told Betty that she needed to have a seat for the news that was going to be brought to her.

The happily married couple are the latest big winners from Scotland after we reported on a series of recent big lottery wins in Bo’Ness. This couple’s Millionaire Maker Raffle win repeats the success of a group of Ayrshire cleaning ladies with the EuroMillions lotto game.

Geordie served in the Argyll and Sutherlands regiment between 1967 and 1981. After which he worked as a domestic supervisor at the regiments and Bute Hospital before retiring early last year. The ecstatic EuroMillions winner joked that his win won’t change him and he’ll still be a “crabby old git.”

Family is the most important thing to the winning couple. Just like another lottery winner, Frederick McClendon, the couple plans to use their winnings on helping their loved ones. The couple has six children and each of the children will receive £25,000. The generosity and love don't stop there, though. The couple plans on buying a new house and will put it in the names of their grandchildren, so that that when they die, the children will be able to share the proceeds. Apparently a surprise trip for Geordie’s 85-year-old mother-in-law is also on the cards.

Betty is planning on retiring as a carer with Enable Scotland and said, “One old lady was telling her home help that she had a millionaire helping her to bed the previous night.” Similar to another EuroMillions winner, Angela Maxwell, the happy couple will be continuing their voluntary work because they have plans for the Lochgilphead Armed Forces Day on the 20th of June.

We believe a huge congratulation is in order for this well-deserving couple and their EuroMillions win! Remember, you too can get lucky by playing the lottery online. Change your luck today by choosing your lucky numbers. You’ve got to be in it to win it!
