Ryan Hoyle, 38, a self-employed joiner from Rochdale, recently won £58 million on the EuroMillions. The lucky EuroMillions jackpot winner said he celebrated his life-changing jackpot win by having a beer with his brothers - at a 2m (6ft 6in) distance of course.
The lucky dad won Friday's EuroMillions draw and is now celebrating being more than £58 million richer thanks to playing the EuroMillions lottery.
He told lottery officials that he discovered the win while checking his emails early on Saturday morning.
At first, Ryan thought he had won £2.30 when he saw an email from the National Lottery on Saturday. But on closer inspection he couldn’t believe what he was seeing:
“I always wake up early and was sitting on the edge of my bed but couldn’t work out what I was looking at.
"The email linked to my account which looked like a lot of numbers and I thought it might be millions but I couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing. I couldn’t make sense of it and really needed to talk to someone so I called Mum and Dad.
"It was 6am so they assumed that I had locked myself out of the flat somehow as it has happened before.
“I was shaking and really needed a second opinion so I jumped in the van and drove round to Mum and Dad’s house.
"I stuck to the government guidelines and kept a safe distance outside and passed the phone through the window for them to double-check for me.
"They even checked my numbers against another website, just to be sure. It was real – I had won £58M!”
According to Ryan, his parents were just as shocked as was but they kept calm nevertheless.
The good news spread quickly around Rochdale and Ryan received dozens of congratulatory messages and texts.
When asked how he plans to spend his EuroMillions lottery jackpot win, Ryan said he currently drives a two-year-old white van that belongs to his work. He said that the first thing he intends to spend some of his EuroMillions windfall on is a decent car so he can drive himself and his 11-year-old daughter around.
Ryan usually takes his daughter to Spain each year, but when the travel restrictions are lifted he plans to take her waterparks in Florida and Disneyland.
Ryan, who rents a one bed flat, will be looking to purchase his own home as soon as the lockdown is lifted and he can see what is available. He said he might also build his own home in the future but as he’s a down-to-earth guy, he’s not looking to build anything flash, saying: “You don’t need a swimming pool round here, it’s not hot enough.”
"I’m going to see the family right as well as my closest friends.
"Mum works at the local school as a cleaner and has been struggling with a sore hip for years, so it would be great to see her take early retirement straight away.
"And this win means my Dad can stop working at the factory by the end of the week"
Celebrating winning the EuroMillions jackpot during lockdown
Ryan said that even though the Covid-19 pandemic meant that he couldn’t throw a huge party to celebrate, he did still manage to celebrate at a distance with his brothers, who live close by.
"We sat apart drinking beer on Saturday afternoon in the sunshine and tried to let the news sink in.
"I just couldn't be alone but we kept more than two metres apart. I needed to talk to them and ask their advice. It was a nice afternoon and it really helped with the shock."
