Even though the world is flooded with stories about the Corovirus there are still lottery players that are winning huge prizes playing the lottery and what better time to have a cash flow flood your account?
The first EuroMillions lottery winner is a woman from Dublin who won €404,532 on last Tuesday’s St Patrick's Day draw.
She told lottery officials that the ticket that she had won on was an extra line that she purchased by accident.
She said her extra lottery entry had led her to win €404,532!
The luck winner said that she is part of a small family syndicate that love to buy EuroMillions lottery tickets together. She said she could hardly believe her luck when she realised that they had won.
She said: “First of all, I never usually buy my Lottery tickets in Liffey Valley Tesco, I just bought them there as I was doing the weekly big shop. On a Monday I usually buy two lines of Lotto (for the Wednesday draw) and one line of EuroMillions (for the Tuesday Draw) but I accidentally bought two lines for both Lotto and EuroMillions this time.
"I realised my mistake straight away but I just put the tickets in my bag. The next day I checked my EuroMillions numbers on the National Lottery app and a message told me to contact the National Lottery!”
“Shocked, I got my daughter and asked her to check the numbers online, which she did, and we could see we matched five numbers and one lucky star number and wasn’t it on the second line of the EuroMillions ticket – the line I got by mistake!”, the delighted woman added.
Sutton work syndicate wins just over €159,000 on EuroMillions
A group of 46 co-workers won big on the EuroMillions lottery and their lucky win could not have come at a better time.
Crystal Martin’s warehouse, where they all work is, unfortunately, closing this summer and all warehousing staff are being made redundant.
Craig Rowland, the warehouse senior supervisor, created the EuroMillions lottery syndicate last month as a way to bring everyone together following the announcement. Little did they know that before the warehouse would close that they would win on the EuroMillions.
The syndicate matched five numbers plus one lucky star in the draw on to win £159,609.40.
Each syndicate member will get £3,469.76.
Speaking to lottery officials while claiming the prize, Craig, 40, said: “I was out having a curry when a syndicate member rang asking if I had checked the EuroMillions draw that night?
“I quickly checked the numbers myself on the app and then phoned my wife Natalie who was at home to scan the tickets and we had won.
“I had four of the syndicate with me that night and they were all asking me while I was on the phone if we had won and how much.
“We were all gobsmacked but didn’t want to get too excited as the ticket hadn’t been checked.
“It was about 11.30pm when I got home, Natalie had already gone to bed so I sat there checking the ticket again.”
First thing the following morning, Craig called Camelot to confirm the syndicates win. By then the syndicate’s Facebook Messenger group was awash with comments.
Craig said: “I had to wait for a call back and in the meantime the phone never stopped, in fact, it hasn’t been quiet since.”
Denise Marshall, 59, one of the syndicate members, said: “It’s great timing, everybody is so pleased and for me personally it gives me a financial comfort blanket until I work out what to do with it, but I will be treating my four grandchildren.”
Unfortunately, the syndicate couldn’t gather as usual to celebrate their win together due to the current social distancing advice as a result of Coronavirus but the group are all in high spirits and are speaking to each other via Messenger.
Craig accepted the cheque on behalf of the syndicate and promised to hold a celebration when the time was right.
He said, “We have a giant bottle of champagne which has enough for a glass for every syndicate member but it is important we all keep a safe distance at the moment.
“We will keep washing our hands for the time being and save our celebration for later.”
