A EuroMillions syndicate of 15 workmates have won a grand total of £122,898.20 after their lucky EuroMillions lottery ticket matched all five main numbers in the EuroMillions draw earlier this month.
The EuroMillions lottery group call themselves, ‘Victorious Secret’ and they have been buying lottery tickets since 2009. With £122,898.20 being the total prize, each member of the syndicate will receive £8,193.21.
The winners who work at H&S Aviation in Portsmouth told lottery officials that they play 15 lines on the EuroMillions every Friday and that they use the same numbers every week. The lucky EuroMillions numbers they play are the same as the original 15 group members picked in 2009.
Jim Filson, the group’s leader said he set up the syndicate back in 2009 when he saw a huge EuroMillions rollover and thought everyone should be part of the euro lotto action at work.
He thought the big win was ‘a wind-up’ at first.
He said: ‘Up until now I’ll admit we haven’t been the luckiest syndicate, with only very small wins here and there, but I’ve always hoped and believed we would come good.
‘I guess fate was testing our commitment – I’m very glad we’ve stuck with it!
‘I always check our syndicate numbers on Saturday morning and while I had received an e-mail saying we’d won, I assumed it was another couple of quid.
‘I logged onto national-lottery.co.uk and the account balance hadn’t changed so I assumed it was one big wind up!
‘However, when I clicked on the email message thoughts of cruel pranks were put to one side when I saw £1,228.
‘I was really chuffed until I rubbed my eyes and looked again and instead saw £122,898.20!’
Jim, who buys the groups EuroMillions lottery tickets online, went on to say that he first called his boss, who is a member of the syndicate, to let him know of the good news.
The syndicate got together to celebrate their EuroMillions victory at HMS Victory at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Interestingly, the ship is one of the many projects at the site to have received lottery funding.
When asked what he would do with his share of the prize, he said it’s too early to say.
‘I don’t have any specific plans but I’m not going to fritter it away.
‘It will go on something tangible so I can say “our lottery win paid for that”.’
A few of the group members said that they would use their prize money on holidays to destinations such as Florida, New Zealand and Japan. When it came to a few of the other EuroMillions syndicate members, their list included; paying for a new car, a honeymoon, a boiler and a wedding.
